In this episode, Simone and Malcolm dive into the life and controversial experiments of John Money, the psychologist and sexologist who played a pivotal role in shaping modern concepts of gender and sexual orientation.
Just curious, if one of your kids said they were trans, how would you handle it? What if they wanted to go on puberty blockers? What if they want to get gender affirming surgery once they hit 18? How do you think you would navigate it?
Depends on the kid, the context, etc., but we'd navigate it and certainly not actively resist it. We'd help with fertility preservation if they ultimately go through irriversible stuff but not support medical intervention until they're older since such an overwhelming number of people who experience gender dysphoria in puberty get over it (and with that being the case, caving to short-term interest in medical intervention rejects the long-term anticipated interests that kid will have—and those long-term interests matter).
